Jack,
We pass the fees on to the student. We do have them sign a payment
agreement form upon registrations which states this will occur if the
account is placed into collections. We do not yet have electronic
signatures in place as we do not yet do online registrations. As we are
moving toward online registration, we will require an electronic signature
for this agreement prior to registration.
If you would like a copy of the agreement form we use, please let me know.

Subject: bursar-l: Collection Costs on Accounts Receivable

Good morning,

I would like to ask two questions about how schools handle the collection
agency's fee for collections on delinquent accounts receivable.

1. Do you pass the fees along to the student or do you absorb the cost?

2. If you do charge the fees to the student, do you have the student's
signature on any document wherein the student acknowledges that he/she is
responsible for collection costs or do you use electronic signatures?

Thanks for your help.
