We usually tell the student they need to wait at least 10 business days
before we do a stop-payment and begin the process of re-issuing a check.
We will, however, begin the process earlier (or even right away) if the
student has a compelling reason to believe the check was stolen or
forged.
Since we only issues checks every other week, some students balk at
waiting 10 days to start the replacement process. But, when we explain
that once the stop-pay is confirmed they cannot cash the original check
- should it come in the mail the following day - they usually
understand.
Hope this helps.

Subject: bursar-l: Re-issuing checks
Hi, we are in the process of setting up a policy for re-issuing refund
checks that have been reported as "not received". Would anyone be
willing to share how long they wait to re-issue once a stop pay has been
placed on the first check.
Thank you so much.
