bursar-l: Academic forgiveness programs

Good afternoon all:

I have been asked to find out if many colleges and universities offer an
academic forgiveness program for first year students. We have heard
that some colleges permit freshmen who do poorly to request that the
first semester grades be converted to withdrawals, and begin the second
semester of their freshman year with a fresh start.

If your institution offers this type of program, please respond, and if
the details are on the web, include a link to your website. If the
information is not on the web, a brief description on how your program
is structured would be appreciated.
