ASSISTANT DIRECTOR - BURSAR * Office of the Bursar (Band C)
The Assistant Director - Will be responsible for providing leadership
in the areas of Student Payment Plans, Third Party Billing, Employer
Reimbursement Plan, student appeals and updating the policy and
procedure manual. This position will also assist in the performance
standards for the entire department.
RESPONSIBILITIES, DUTIES & TASKS
1. Manage and student payment plans, this includes overseeing one
full time employee.
2. Manage employer reimbursement plans.
3. Manage third party billing programs.
4. Manage student financial appeals regarding tuition and fees.
5. Manage and oversee the updating of Bursar Policy and Procedure
Manual.
6. Assist with ensuring that all accounts are billed correctly and
are properly recognized as revenue at the appropriate time.
7. Assist with managing the preparation and distribution of monthly
statements and invoices.
8. Assist with determining the quarterly reserve calculation and
annual account write-off.
9. Assist with managing entrance and exit interviews.
10. Assist with analyzing and managing the operating budget of the
Office of the Bursar.
11. Assist with management of the Student Health Plan.
12. Assist coordinating with Financial Aid to ensure timely
application of financial aid to student accounts.
13. Assist with management of relationships with collection
agencies, including development of a method allowing management to
determine the effectiveness of the various collection agencies.
14. Participate in the on-going development of PeopleSoft.
15. Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience:
Bachelor*s degree (B.A. or B.S.) required, Master*s, MBA or CPA
preferred A comprehensive understanding of higher education is also
preferred.
Language Ability:
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common financial reports, and
legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints
from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business
community.
Math Ability:
Ability to apply mathematical concepts to the analysis of information.
Reasoning Ability:
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw
valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of
technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with
several abstract and concrete variables.
Computer Skills:
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge
of Word Processing software; Spreadsheet software; Accounting software;
Payroll systems; and Human Resource systems. The University uses the
Lawson financial system and this will require comprehension and
knowledge of the system functionality. The University is currently in
the process of developing PeopleSoft to fully meet the student
information need of the University. Knowledge of the PeopleSoft system
will be necessary for success in this position.
Certificates and Licenses:
CPA is preferred.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
This position, as it fully develops, may manage employees in the
Division.
