Schools that participate in Title IV programs are required to sign a
Program Participation Agreement with the US Dept of Education, which
includes their acknowledgement of the authority of the Department to
share information. Several items in the PPA discuss this, including
items #4, #7 and #17 of the PPA. In order to comply with your PPA, I
believe you are required to give them any information they need, in
order for ED to properly administer the programs.

Subject: [BULK] bursar-l: FERPA and DEPT OF ED
Importance: Low
Does anyone know if FERPA applies to the Dept of Ed? We have a
situation where a former student has been assigned to the Dept of Ed and
we believe he has falsified information. Our registrar will not supply
the information needed because we don't have a release from the student.
Do we need a release if the information is going to the Dept of Ed?
Thanks,
