We do the same as Jefferson.
Depending on the date of passing (in a current term) we might
retroactively drop the classes and refund any monies paid by the student
back to the estate.

Subject: Re: bursar-l: Deceased Students with Unpaid Balances
At Jefferson Community College we write off the balance. We do not
attempt to collect from an estate.

We are interested in finding out how other colleges are handling
the unpaid balances of deceased students. Once you have been notified
that the student is deceased, does anyone ever send a bill to the
estate? Do you reverse the tuition charges thereby lowering revenue or
do you write off the unpaid balance?
In the past we have written off the balance as uncollectible
debt.
