Hi Jill,

Although we are not a Banner institution, the University of Florida
converted from SSN to a "UFID" in January 2003 for all students and
employees. The UFID includes 8 numerical digits separated by a dash
(1234-5678).

As you can imagine, extensive systems preparation and testing was
required as this was a "university-wide" project as it affected
virtually everyone associated with the University.

For further information, please see our "UFID" website at
http://www.it.ufl.edu/ufid/ <http://www.it.ufl.edu/ufid/> .

Subject: bursar-l: ID conversion question

We are beginning our implementation to Banner 7.3 and are also
converting
our Student ID's from a social security number to an alternate ID. I
need
information from other schools that went through this process. If you
are
using a 9 digit number, are you using all numeric or using an alpha
character? What number/letter are you starting with and why did you
decide
this?

SCT is recommending we start with an alpha character followed by 8
numbers.
We are hearing from others to go all numeric for several reasons (data
entry, other system feeds, etc.). Any information you can share is
appreciated.

Happy New Year!
Jill
