Jill,
When we converted to Banner in 1999-2000, we converted to an ID
number that consists of a '+' character followed by 8 numeric
digits. We chose the 'plus' because it is on the numeric keypad, and
doesn't require that you use the shift key, facilitating data entry.
The advantage is that the Banner ID is then easily distinguishable from an SSN.
