bursar-l: ID conversion question

We are beginning our implementation to Banner 7.3 and are also converting
our Student ID's from a social security number to an alternate ID. I need
information from other schools that went through this process. If you are
using a 9 digit number, are you using all numeric or using an alpha
character? What number/letter are you starting with and why did you decide
this?

SCT is recommending we start with an alpha character followed by 8 numbers.
We are hearing from others to go all numeric for several reasons (data
entry, other system feeds, etc.). Any information you can share is
appreciated.

Happy New Year!
Jill
