Patricia,

Answers from SIU Edwardsville in CAPS below.

P.S. If you are attending the PDG Bursar's Conference in San Antonio, I will
be giving a presentation on E-billing. You may want to attend that session.
It would be very interesting to have reps of schools going through the
process of evaluating E-billing be able to recount their experiences thus
far. (This was not a paid announcement. ) :-)

Boston College is in the initial stages of exploring e-billing. I would
appreciate any responses reflecting your experiences with the following
issues.

BOSTON COLLEGE

E-BILLING SURVEY

Who is your vendor? WE DEVELOPED OUR E-BILLING SYSTEM IN-HOUSE USING
EXISTING INFRASTRUCTURE.

How long have you used e-billing? A FULL ACADEMIC YEAR.

Do you give the student an option of paper or require e-billing? NO OPTION -
ALL CURRENTLY ENROLLED STUDENTS GET AN E-BILLING EMAIL NOTICE. EX-STUDENTS
STILL RECEIVE A PAPER BILL.

If you require e-billing did you give the student a transition period to
convert from paper? YES. How long was this transition period?
ONE FULL SEMESTER OF BILLING WHICH COVERS 4 BILL RUNS.

If you offer paper billing, does the same company produce the paper bill,
another company, or produced in house? ALL IN-HOUSE.

What is your participation rate for e-bill? N/A

Did the change to e-billing have an impact on receivables? Good? Bad?
SINCE THE E-BILL PROGRAM ALLOWS FOR MAKING ONLINE PAYMENTS, ANECDOTAL
EVIDENCE LEADS ME TO BELIEVE THAT MORE CUSTOMERS ARE USING OUR WEB PAYMENT
OPTION.

Would you share any other positive or negative results of your experience
with e-billing? A MAJOR CONCERN IS PARENTS WHO NO LONGER GET A PAPER BILL
BUT DON'T TRUST THEMSELVES TO VIEW EMAIL AND REFUSE TO TRUST THEIR SON
AND/OR DAUGHTER TO PASS INFO ALONG OR AUTHROIZE THEM TO RECEIVE ACCESS TO
THE BILLING DATA.

 Thanks,

Patricia Hayes
