1098T question

Our school has had many requests for prior year 1098T's. Do most schools
keep paper copies of the 1098T form for a given year? Currently, I have
each year saved to a CD and just send the student the information as to
what box had what in it. I am curious if the school is obligated to send
out an exact copy after the year in question is over.
