Sorry for the delay: Here is one more response to add to this
LOA/Separation/Readmission Fee question that Lou had:
At the University of Minnesota, we recently had a subcommittee review a
proposal for a readmission fee after a leave of absence. The group
looked at charging students for readmittance but the general consensus
was that this was a bad idea (nickel and diming students, bad for future
relationships with students, lots of work to collect the money). FYI.

Thanks to all those in Bursarland that took time from your busy schedule
and responded to my query.
If any of you are ever in NYC or the vicinity of my college, I will
promise to do lunch (my treat.)
Not all of you at once of course, but one at a time (budget,,budget..)
Below is a summary of the responses,
After my email inquiry , I received several replies to the
LOA/separation fee.
1) One University charges $300 LOA fee for the academic year which
is a deposit that is credited back to the student upon their return.
They are contemplating increasing the fee to $500 per semester or $1000
a year and changing the name of the fee to and "administrative fee".
2) One University charges an administrative fee for a leave of
absence (the amount of fee was not disclosed)
3)One University charges a $20 maintenance of matriculation
fee for a leave of absence.
4) One College charges a $75 readmission fee
5) One College charges a $250 per semester for LOA grads. If they do not
return
from LOA they get charge an admissions fee of $25 and a nonrefundable
tuition deposit of $100.
6)One college l requires that their student in their graduate school
must maintain matriculation each semester and complete their masters or
Ph.D. programs, If they withdraw and the return or take a LOA the are
charged a fee for each semester that they have been away. If they have
not registered for less tan two semester, they will need to pay the
maintenance fee of $724 for each term plus any other fees required for
during those semester.
7) One College charges $50 per LOA semester and is called a
maintenance or matriculation fee.
Some colleges that responded do not charge a fee for a loa but students
that do not return after their loa must go again through the application
and admissions process if they wish to return.
Thanks
Lou
