Our loan servicer recently informed us that we could do a "negative"
deferment. Basically send out a letter to the people close to default
saying that we would automatically put them in deferment for 6 months unless
we heard from them within 30 days. They recommended that we send the letter
out 30 days prior to our year-end so they wouldn't show up as defaulted and
thereby affect our co-hort default rate.
Does anyone out there in bursar land know anything about this? Both our
Financial Aid office and outside auditors are leery of this advice.
