This message is in response to the email from Drake University which posed
the following questions related to the verification process:
1. Is there a way to decrease the number of files you have to look at?
2. Do you select those for verification who used estimated tax info?
3. Do you look at "no need" students?
4. Do you have programming in place that allows you to determine or
eliminate certain files that would or would not need to be reviewed?
Since we do not represent a school, we cannot answer the questions
specifically. However, from years of working with Quality Assurance
schools, we have developed a tool that can help ANY school review ISIRs and
see how the verification process is working for that school. We are pleased
to introduce the Quality Analysis Tool For Windows - A verification software
tool that is available free of charge from the SFA Download site
<http://sfadownload.ed.gov/index.htm>. This is a tool for ALL schools to use
for the 2002-03 academic year. You can find more information about this tool
in the Guide to "Attain, Sustain and Advance Quality in Financial Aid
Management", located on the web at <http://qaprogram.air.org/guidance.asp>.
Version 2.0 of the Tool will allow any school to analyze changes to ISIR
information that occur during the 2002-03 academic year - as soon as you
have completed aid packaging. This will speed up your ability to apply what
you learn from analyzing the data so you can make improvements in your
verification process for the next year.
You will get introductory level training on this tool during EDExpress
Training that will begin as early as May 29th. Check the IFAP web site at
<http://ifap.ed.gov/IFAPWebApp/index.jsp> (FSA Training) for specific times
and locations. The training on the Quality Analysis Tools for Windows - A
Verification Tool is held day one and is a two hour session in the
afternoon.
FSA is hoping that many schools will avail themselves of this tool to see
the results of their verification work and to better understand how they
might help their families prevent mistakes and how they can better tailor
their own institutional verification procedures.
