At Linfield our ?Clearing Date? is 3 weeks before school starts. All cash plus a promissory note for the financial aid to be posted is due by then. If not, we charge a $100 late clearing fee. This was recently increased from $50 to encourage a better response on time. It didn?t work! If students don?t have their financial aid in by the deadline, we charge a 1% Service Charge on the account balance plus a $25 Late Fee per month.
In addition, students who have note cleared their account will be denied services such as:
1. Housing access
2. Board access
3. Recreational sports facilities
4. Library access
5. Computer lab access
6. Short Term Loan
7. Parking Permit
8. E-mail account
The best encouragement we have to make students pay their balance is to block them from future registration. This is something we can turn on easily.
The second best encouragement is denial of a transcript, but this is prompted by the student.
