Here at the School Of Visual Arts, a private college residing in NYC, we do
not allow students to charge their books to their tuition account.( What an
accounting and billing nightmare that can cause !!)
Our book store although located in campus is independent from the college.
If the student need funds to buy their books they must be fully funded
with financial aid beyond their tuition charges . In that case we give them
an advance of their funds by check payable to the student only. The
student can cash the check and then buy their books from the campus store
or from any discount outlet that sell books.

I do not know of any college here in NYS that allows students to charge
their books to their tuition account.
