Our sick leave plan allows full time employees to accrue 7.75 hours (one
normal work day) month. Most part time employees are pro-rated. Sick time
can accrue to a maximum of 230 hours at which time it is rolled over to
personal time off at the rate of 3 to 1. Neither sick leave nor personal
time off can be paid out on termination. Up to 4 days per year may be taken
to care for sick family members. We have recently implemented a new
incentive plan to encourage employees not to take sick leave unless they are
truly ill. If an employee goes one quarter without using any sick time,
they get a half day bonus day off in the following quarter. It is lost if
not taken in the following quarter.

Subject: Sick Leave Rewards
We have been taking a broad look at various
employee benefits. One of the issues that came up
is related to Sick Leave and possible employee
rewards for staying healthy and not using sick
leave.
Oklahoma Baptist University employees currently
accrue sick leave for use by the employee or, to a
limited extent, for the employee to assist a sick
immediate family member defined as parent, spouse,
or dependent child. Sick leave accrual caps at 70
days and is not available as pay when an employee
leaves service.
We are wondering what other schools are doing, if
anything, to reward employees for staying healthy
and on the job. Obviously, we don't want them on
the job if they are truly ill. If you have a
reward plan, please let us know about the plan,
its goals, and whether you believe the plan meets
those goals.
Thanks for your help,
