COHEAO TELESEMINAR: Implementing Loan Rehabilitation for Federal Perkins Loan Borrowers
Addressing the request of colleges and universities for more information on implementation procedures for the rehabilitation of defaulted Federal Perkins Loans, the Coalition of Higher Education Assistance Organizations (COHEAO) has announced a teleseminar on the subject to be held on
ArialApril 12, 2000. The teleseminar will provide interested institutions with both a briefing from Gail McLarnon, a Perkins Loan Policy Specialist, at the Department of Education and an opportunity to have their questions answered. Also participating on the teleseminar are David Stocker of General Revenue Corporation, Anne-Marie Miller of EFG Technologies, and Alisa Abadinsky of the University of Illinois at Chicago, who will provide additional comments on the challenges institutions face in implementing the rehabilitation program. "Our goal is to provide our members with the information they need for a relatively painless implementation of the rehabilitation provisions. During the one hour seminar, participants will learn first-hand what the school’s responsibilities are, and how rehabilitation will affect a borrower’s loan," said COHEAO president David Stocker. The call will begin promptly at 2:00 p.m. Eastern Time on April 12th. COHEAO is processing registrations through its web site at www.coheao.com, or by telephone at 202.289.3910, and by fax at 202.371.0197. After they register, participants will be contacted with a call-in number. The call will last approximately one hour and is open to both COHEAO members and non-members. The registration fee is $50 for COHEAO members and $75 for non-members. The registration is per site, which allows several participants to listen to the call for the cost of one registration fee. COHEAO President David Stocker described the teleseminar as an additional effort on the part of COHEAO to provide members with the information they need to assist schools in complying with this regulatory change. "A teleseminar is an extremely efficient way to put our members in direct touch with Department of Education policymakers without asking them to fly to Washington or even leave their office." Stocker indicated that COHEAO anticipates holding additional teleseminars on student aid topics later this year. COHEAO is a partnership of over 300 educational and commercial members and promotes access to postsecondary education. COHEAO focuses on legislative and regulatory advocacy for Federal Perkins and other campus-based student loan programs. More information on COHEAO, the teleseminar, and resources on the Perkins Loan Program, are available by calling COHEAO at 202.289.3910 or on the COHEAO web site at <Arialwww.coheao.comArial.
