Hi, everyone -
We're working on our endowment gifting policies and are interested in what
other schools, are doing with regard to setting up individual, "named"
endowment funds in your general ledger. These would be separate GL accounts
within the endowment fund which are named for the donor, receive their own
income, etc. I'd love to hear from as many schools as possible, but would
especially like some input from smaller private schools. Unless several
others on the list are interested in the responses, please respond to me
directly, and I'll compile a summary and respond back to the list ASAP
(we're heading into yearend, so I say ASAP).
Specifically, can you tell me:
1) What is the FTE enrollment at your school? Approximate MV of your
endowment?
2) Is there a minimum $ limit that a donor must contribute before you'll
establish the named fund? (e.g. $50,000 minimum?)
3) Is the donor allowed a period of time in which to reach the limit in #1,
above? (e.g. they're allowed 2 years to reach the $50,000 level)?
4) Do you have higher levels of giving in proportion to the higher number of
restrictions placed on the fund? (e.g. a $50,000 minimum for a general
scholarship endowment, a $60,000 limit for funds restricted to certain
programs, and $75,000 for funds restricted to students from specific
geographic areas or students with certain majors and GPA's?)
5) How long has your current policy been in effect? Do you make many
exceptions?
Thanks in advance for your input.....it's really appreciated!!!!
