We have the same problem at the University of St. Thomas. We have had a
meeting with our bank to try to come up with some solutions. Unfortunately,
the bank has indicated that the changes have to come from within our
university. One thing that is available through the bank is an extra report
that would include any addenda information that would have been transmitted
with the ACH transfer.
Another suggestion is to distribute some type of form to all departments,
notifying them of the information required when they allow their
students/customers to have the option of sending funds via ACH, as well as
specifying that notification of your office is required when these transfers
occur. However, getting them to comply with your request is another
story.......
Please let ME know if you come up with any solutions to this problem.

For those of you who receive numerous miscellaneous payments by ACH - How do
you determine what the payment is for?
We seem to have difficulty, since the only information we usually get with
the payment is the name of the payer. Often the department expecting the
money has not notified us so we need to play detective.
It seemed like we got more information such as a copy of the invoice or at
least invoice number or some description along with the paper checks.
I hope someone out there has solved this problem.
