 POSITION DESCRIPTION
 
 
 Title: Associate Director of Student Billing in the Office of Student
Financials
 
 Supervisor: Nancy Sinsabaugh, Interim Director
 
 Work Setting: The Office of Student Financials is a student service
department in the Office of the Executive Vice President and Provost. The
office has 22+ full-time employees.
 
 Required Knowledge: A minimum of a Bachelor's degree in an appropriate
discipline and four years of progressive supervisory and management
experience in student financials in the public or private sector. A
minimum of three years of work experience in managing a professional work
force in a student financials environment. Exceptional communication
skills are essential.
 
 Specific Functions: The Associate Director for Student Billing has
administrative authority and management responsibility for the staff in the
Student Billing Unit of the Office for Student Financials. This position
requires dealing effectively with all development/management issues, and/or
coaching others in design/development. The Associate Director performs the
following functions:
 
1. Management of the Student Billing Unit (formerly Student Accounts
Receivable) staff, operations and resources.
· Support University, Student Financials and Student Billing goals and
objectives
· Supervisory authority and responsibility for unit staff
o Hire staff
o Provide supervision
o Provide staff with the necessary tools to perform their jobs
o Assign responsibility and delegate authority to staff
o Evaluate staff performance
o Assist with appropriate disciplinary actions when necessary
o Provide training
o Keep morale high

2. Ensure prompt and courteous customer service to students, parents,
schools and departments.
· Help develop one-stop vision, working with the Office of the Registrar
(OTR) and Office of scholarships and Financial Aid (OSFA).
· Assist in the determination and provide needed services and desirable
improvements
· Assure that staff are current on federal, state and agency financial
regulations.
· Assist in the division objectives and priorities to maintain
customer-service quality.
· Integrate student billing customer service with OSFA and OTR as part of
the University's one-stop student services concept.

3. Responsible for the annual student financials planning cycle for Student
Billing

· Assist the Director in setting objectives, determine strategies, forecast
outcomes, and develop procedures to assure accurate and timely processing
of student financial documents.
· Help prepare, review and revise student financial forms and publications.
· Implement relevant policies, established by the Regents, University
Administration, Student Financials, and federal, state and external
agencies to assure compliance with applicable rules and regulations.
· Assist in the evaluation of services provided and seek continuous
improvement.

4. Serve as a consultant to University offices and Student Billing staff
who need assistance in dealing with student problem situations.

5. Assist in the overall management of the Student Financials area as a
member of the Director's Administrative Group.
· Participates in the planning, development, implementation and evaluation
of Student Financials
o Mission, goals and objectives
o Operating budget
o Human resource policies
o Department policies and procedures.
· Be familiar with policies and procedures of other one-stop areas

Salary: Negotiable depending on qualifications; full-time 12-month
position with an initial one year fixed-term renewable contract.

Starting Date: March 1, 2000
