IU is establishing a process which will initially use both the Office of the
Bursar and the Office of Student Financial Assistance. OSFA will do a
preliminary mailing, prepared jointly, which will highlight the important
information for students and provide an autho. This will be quite a change
for our students after these wonderful years of Experimental Site exemption.
The Office of the Bursar will actually collect and track the authos, follow
up with aid recipients who have not returned an autho, etc. Our position is
that we are closest to the refund process and we have a very large stake in
ensuring that the authos are signed.
I would like to hear other responses. And if anyone is willing to share
samples of authos you have in place, I would appreciate it greatly! Feel
free to send in e-mail, fax, or snail mail!

Subject: Authorization for Title IV funds
Hello everyone,
Federal regulations require student authorization for use of
Title IV funds if an institution desires to apply these funds to
charges other that tuition and fees (i.e. health ins.). I was
wondering which office (Fin. Aid/Bursar/Other) collects this
authorization from the students at each institution? At the
Medical College of Ohio our Financial Aid office is currently
collecting the authorization and we are considering transferring
this function to the Student Accounts Office. Any information
on how other universities are processing this info. would be
greatly appreciated.
Sincerely,
Patrick R. Okerbloom
