Subject: bursar-l: Student-initiated withdrawal from school
I would be interested in learning what process other schools follow when
a student chooses to withdraw from your institution during the course of
the semester. Is the student required to visit all offices in person OR
is paperwork routed another way? We currently require our students to
obtain a withdrawal form from Academic Services and walk it around to
the various offices, including Library, Student Accounts, and Financial
Aid. The thought is that we can explain to them in person what their
leaving will mean in terms of loan repayment, forfeited aid and possible
balances due. The problem is that some students start the process, get
the paperwork, and then just leave without following through on
obtaining a signature from each office OR the form is left in someone's
office and gets misplaced and never forwarded to the next office until
weeks later.
We are looking at revising our process to avoid such hassles. What is
the method that works for you?
Thank you in advance for any input.
-Stacy
